From July 1, tiger reserves in Rajasthan will get a weekly holiday of one day, a move by the Forest Department that has been applauded by conservationists. The closure of one day every week will have an effect on the business, therefore stakeholders in the hotel industry are a little dissatisfied with this.

In accordance with the NTCA standards, the forest department has chosen to keep tiger reserves restricted to visitor activities once every week. Wildlife experts are pleased with the decision to give Wednesdays a weekly holiday in the Tiger Reserve after a crucial decision was made earlier to end full-day and half-day safaris in the Tiger Reserve and Leopard Reserve. 

However, the stakeholders said that the decision will directly affect the safaris in Ranthambore and Sariska. Members of the tourism industry have highlighted that a considerable number of visitors who specifically visit Ganesh Temple in Ranthambore Fort on Wednesday also participated in the safari. 

“The administration should have consulted with the stakeholders prior to making this decision, considering the specific day and other indispensable factors. Wildlife tourism in Ranthambore will unquestionably bear the brunt of this decision while hotels hosting marriages will remain relatively unaffected.” - Balendu Singh, former honorary wildlife warden of Ranthambore.
