State Raises Target of Renewable Energy Production
Rajasthan Clean Energy Policy expected to attract over Rs 5 lakh crore investment
Udaipur, October 11, 2024 - Rajasthan government is planning to merge various policies involving renewable energy sector (solar, wind, pump storage) into a single, unified policy. This initiative is expected to attract investments worth more than Rs 5 lakh crore in the state.
A draft for this policy - Rajasthan Clean Energy Policy - has been prepared. Under this scheme, the government plans to develop several large solar and wind energy parks. It has increased the target for renewable energy (cheap electricity) production from 10,000 MW to 1,25,000 MW. Any firm that invests in renewable energy facilities in the state will be required to provide a part of the affordable electricity to DISCOMs (distribution companies). The government wants to discontinue the practice of generating affordable electricity here and only selling it to other states.
With new technology forthcoming, the government is also making changes to land allocation limits reducing it from 3 hectares of land for a 1 MW solar plant to 2.5 hectares.
The work on feeder-level solarisation is gaining speed in the state under the PM-KUSUM scheme and two solar power plants, under Component-C of the scheme, with a combined capacity of 5.30 MW have been set up in Khairthal-Tijara and Kotputli-Behror districts. Electricity is already being produced here. The 2.74 MW solar plant in Jat Behror of the Bhiwadi circle (Khairthal-Tijara area) is supplying electricity to 200 agricultural consumers during the day. Similarly, a 1.64 MW plant in Hudia Jaitpur, Kotputli-Behror district, was launched just two days ago, supplying electricity to 247 agricultural consumers.
