"Udaipur" will be replaced by "Salumbar" across approximately 2,098 name boards across Salumbar district
Salumbar faces urgent need for boards replacement
It has been nearly three weeks since the creation of 17 new districts in Rajasthan. Among these changes, Salumbar has emerged as a new district by separating from Udaipur. Currently, there are approximately 2098 signs or boards where the name "Udaipur" needs to be replaced with "Salumber" to reflect this new administrative division. Importantly, a majority of these boards are associated with education departments, encompassing a total of 829 schools and other related offices. Out of the 54 departments, 24 are directly connected to public works, necessitating a change in their signage. The challenge lies in the absence of allocated funds for these departments to facilitate the necessary name change from Udaipur to Salumber.
Reportedly, there has been a verbal directive for these changes to be carried out at the respective departmental levels. Consequently, efforts are underway to locate sponsors who can facilitate the alteration of boards in government schools. These changes are being implemented with the assistance of these sponsors. A preliminary estimate suggests a minimum cost of Rs. 500 per board. When accounting for additional expenses, a budget of approximately Rs. 10-11 lakh rupees is deemed necessary. Extrapolating this expenditure to the 17 new districts of the state, the total cost is estimated to be around Rs. 2 crore. The anticipated expenses for board modifications include factors such as the cost of writing the new name, utilizing at least two colors, procuring turpentine oil, engaging a painter, and acquiring brushes.
Since the establishment of the Salumber district, several government schools have undergone name changes. Many of these schools have replaced their old signs with new ones, courtesy of various individuals or organizations. The name or affiliation of the sponsoring entity is typically inscribed in one corner of the signboard.
