RSRTC Installs Panic Buttons in Buses for Passenger Security

In the future, the company will connect the panic button system with the state police helpline

To increase passenger safety, the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) has initiated the installation of panic buttons in 4,000 buses across the state. The move comes after a successful pilot project where 800 buses were equipped with the safety feature between April and December last year.

The panic buttons, strategically positioned in buses operating from 18 out of the 52 bus depots, serve as a direct communication link during emergencies. When pressed for three seconds, the button triggers an alert message containing the precise location coordinates of the bus. These alerts are transmitted to both the depot's chief manager and the corporation's control center.

To ensure accessibility, each bus is equipped with 12 panic buttons, placed alternately on seats. This arrangement aims to facilitate easy access for most passengers, enabling swift action in critical situations. The RSRTC aims to complete the installation process across all 4,000 buses by July.

In the future, the company will connect the panic button system with the state police helpline to improve emergency response. Conductors can now use the panic button if any passenger misbehaves.

Depot managers will use the system's live tracking to keep an eye on buses. They can see if buses are going too fast, if they are off their planned route, or if they are missing scheduled stops. This helps them take action quickly to maintain good service and keep passengers safe.
