Lion Safari and Reptile House Expected to Open Before Diwali

The two attractions construction is near completion

Udaipur is about to gain two new attractions: the Lion Safari and the Reptile House in Sajjangarh Sanctuary. Both are expected to be inaugurated before Diwali, offering fresh experiences for tourists visiting the city during the festive season.

Lion Safari Nears Completion

The Lion Safari, constructed by the Zoo Development Trust in Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, is nearing completion. It spans 20 hectares and has a budget of Rs 3.45 crore.

Currently, two lions are already in the safari, with plans to bring in more. To accommodate the growing lion population, ten cages have been built to ensure ample space for the animals.

In February, the Central Zoo Authority approved the transfer of two lions, a male and a female pair, from Junagadh to Udaipur for the safari.

Rare Species at the Reptile House

Meanwhile, the reptile house in the bio park will feature exotic and rare native species of snakes and turtles. This facility has been completed at a cost of Rs 1.9 crore and will soon receive reptiles from other zoos across the country under an exchange program.

Special cages have been prepared near the gharial cage in the bio park. Each cage has ten partitions to house different species. Only the installation of glass remains to be finished.

The reptile house will display Indian species, including the King Cobra, Travancore Tortoise, Russell's Viper, Royal Snake, and Indian Rock Python. It will also showcase exotic species like the Ball Python (hybrid), Green Iguana, Red Iguana, Argentine Black and White Tegu, and Galapagos Tortoise.
