King Cobra to Lead New Reptile House at Sajjangarh Biological Park
The new Reptile House, constructed at a cost of Rs 90 lakh, has been completed. Under an exchange program, reptiles from other zoos across the country will soon be brought to the park.
The world's longest venomous snake, the King Cobra, will become the highlight of the Reptile House at Sajjangarh Biological Park in Udaipur. The Forest Department has revised its plans for the Reptile House, which was originally intended to showcase mainly local reptile species.
Initially, the plan was to feature local snake species. However, Divisional Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) S. R. Venkateshwar Murthi proposed adding rare and exotic reptiles to offer visitors a chance to see unique species.
Visitors will Witness a Range of Reptiles
The updated plan includes a range of reptiles, with the King Cobra expected to be the main attraction. Most of the reptiles will come from zoos in South India. Special enclosures have been built near the Gharial enclosures, each with ten partitions for different reptile species. Visitors will be able to view the reptiles through transparent glass.
The Reptile House will now feature the following species: Indian King Cobra, Indian Travancore Tortoise, Indian Russell's Viper, Indian Royal Snake, Indian Rock Python, Ball Python (Hybrid, Exotic), Green Iguana (Exotic), Red Iguana (Exotic), Argentine Black and White Tegu (Exotic), and Galápagos Tortoise (Exotic).
Originally, the plan included the Star Tortoise and local snakes such as the Common Cat Snake, Russell's Viper, Rat Snake, Common Sand Boa, Russell's Sand Boa, Tree Snake, Common Wolf Snake, and Green Krait.
