Sewage Line Work Delay at RNT, Udaipur

The completion of the sewage line and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at RNT Medical College has hit a roadblock, significantly impacting hospital operations and patient care. Despite infrastructure being in place, connections remain pending, causing widespread inconvenience.

Smart City Halts Work

The Smart City initiative, originally tasked with the project, halted due to budget constraints, delaying crucial sewage connections by eight months. Responsibility has now shifted to the Udaipur Development Authority (UDA), which is preparing to issue tenders to finalize the work.

Clean Water Needed

Once operational, the STP will process up to 100,000 liters of sewage daily, easing water storage and potentially saving millions of liters. This is crucial for a hospital where 6,000 to 7,000 patients visit the OPD daily, with another 4,000 admitted, increasing the demand for clean water.

Currently, incomplete sewer connections have led to sewage spillage on roads near departments such as emergency, dermatology, and the mortuary. The resultant filth and foul odors force pedestrians to cover their faces, posing health risks. Mosquito infestations have also plagued the hospital grounds, exacerbated by stagnant sewage.

Ongoing Sewage Line Work

The ongoing project involves laying a 4.5-kilometer sewage line across the RNT Medical College campus to service hospitals, hostels, and residential areas. Efforts are underway to connect these facilities to the STP, crucial to mitigating ongoing sewer leaks and ensuring proper waste management.

An Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), capable of treating one million liters per day (MLD), has been installed adjacent to the mortuary. This facility aims to treat and recycle toilet water for non-potable uses, including gardening and firefighting, thus promoting sustainability within the campus.

As the UDA prepares to fast-track completion through upcoming tenders, the RNT Medical College community eagerly anticipates the resolution of sewage issues that have compromised hygiene and patient comfort. The successful establishment of the STP and sewage connections promises not only cleaner premises but also significant water conservation benefits for years to come.
