15 yr Old Succumbs to His Wounds in the Udaipur School Stabbing Incident
Udaipur has sunk into gloom as the 15 yr old boy who was attacked in his school by a classmate on 16 August, succumbed to his wounds in the afternoon on 19 August. The victim was under treatment at Maharana Bhopal Government Hospital, where a team of doctors from Udaipur, Jaipur and Kota were attending the boy, who struggled for nearly 72 hrs before finally succumbing to his wounds. The tragic death of the boy was confirmed by Dr. RL Suman, Medical Superintendent at the MB Hospital.
Senior administrative and police officials visited the hospital following the victim's death to assess the situation and coordinate a response. The city remains on high alert as law enforcement continues to manage the unrest and ensure public safety. The body was handed over to the family after the administration agreed to the following demands:
- Fast Track the case against accused
- Security for the family
- Compensation of Rs 51 Lakh
- Government Job to a member of the family.
This stabbing attack, which took place in a Government Senior Secondary School located at Bhatyani Chohatta in Udaipur, reportedly began as a heated argument between two 10th-grade students. The accused, a 16-year-old boy, attacked the victim with a knife that he had purchased from a festival held during the Urs at the Hazrat Diwan Shah Baba shrine in Kapasan village near Chittorgarh.
The medical team who were treating and monitoring the boy were hopeful of his recovery, and things were returning to normal in Udaipur after the initial inicident that spiraled into communal unrest immediately after the incident. Senior community leaders in Udaipur also took to media to address the public and advocated peace and harmony in the city. On 19 August, the day of Raksha Bandhan, the markets were back to normal after three days of unrest, stone pelting, vandalism of business establishment in and near the walled city area.
Earlier during the day today, senior leaders from across the communities, namely Haji Mohammed Baksh, founder of Muslim Mahasang Udaipur, Riyaz Ahmed, the Secretary of the Working Committee of Eid Gah Mosque, Kamlendra Singh Panwar, founder of Bajrang Dal Mewar condemned the incident and called for peace and harmony in the city.
The accused has been detained since the day of the incident. In a sudden move to address concerns, local authorities demolished the rented house of the accused's family on August 17, citing it as an illegal construction. This action further inflamed community tensions, prompting more demonstrations and demands for justice.
Authorities are calling for calm as investigations into the incident continue. The community's focus now turns to addressing the underlying issues that led to the altercation and preventing further violence.
