New Guidelines for Teachers Mobile Phone Usage in Schools

Due to protests of teachers organizations the department had to revise its decision...

The Secondary Education Department has issued a new order regarding the use of mobile phones by teachers in schools. The order now allows teachers to use mobile phones, but with certain conditions.

Earlier, a circular issued on May, 2024, led to confusion and complaints. The Director of Secondary Education, Ashish Modi, clarified that the circular was misinterpreted. He stated that the previous order did not impose a ban on mobile phones. Instead, it was meant to prevent disruptions during teaching if a teacher's phone rang suddenly.

Modi emphasized that the order was not intended to prohibit the use of mobile phones in schools entirely. He explained that the initial confusion arose after a statement by the Education Minister of Rajasthan, Madan Dilawar, which led to a temporary ban on mobile phone use by teachers within the school premises.

This ban, however, faced opposition from teachers organizations, as many important tasks are conducted on mobile phones. Due to these protests, the department had to revise its decision.

The latest order encourages teachers to use mobile phones for digital teaching. However, they are requested not to use them during teaching activities to avoid interruptions. Modi also appealed to teachers for their cooperation, asking them to continue using mobile phones in a way that benefits both students and the department.
