In defiance of a High Court ruling, the Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) confiscated machinery used for cutting down a 10-meter-high hill in Gorela village, situated in the Girwa block of Udaipur. The Mining Department imposed a hefty fine of Rs 3 lakh against the agricultural landowner and marble trader involved. 

Violation of Court Orders

Further investigation uncovered that marble trader Kailash, son of Bannaram Choudhary, and his family had received orders from another High Court regarding amendments to the 2018 Hill Policy, specifically concerning the Aravalli mountain ranges. Despite the absence of approval under the Hill Policy, they continued with the hill-cutting activities. A plea was once again filed by the committee in the double bench of the High Court. The court directed the District Collector (Revenue Department), UDA Commissioner, and Municipal Corporation to submit a joint report on the hill-cutting incident. However, no hearing has taken place in the High Court regarding this matter thus far.

Inspection by Officials

Led by Tehsildar Dr. Abhinav Sharma, a team comprising Senior Town Planner Anupam Sharma, Patwari Surpal Solanki, and Building Inspector Hanuman Prasad Sharma, conducted an inspection of hills in Sisarma and Kalarohi. Their task was to assess and flatten the Poclain and JCB on plots 1353, 1354, and 1355 in Gorela. It was revealed that these lands, designated for agricultural use, spanned an area of 15 bighas and 3 square-feet.
