If the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) greenlights the proposal for building ropeways in Rajasthan, the state could soon boast the third longest ropeway in India. Rajasthan's state government has already laid out plans for constructing 14 ropeways, one of which is a 3.70 km long ropeway in Banswara.

"At present the 4km long Auli ropeway in Uttarakhand is the longest ropeway in India. The under construction Mussoorie-Dehradun ropeway would become the longest once it starts operation which would be 5km long. No other under construction and proposed ropeways in India are longer than that of the proposed ropeway in Banswara." said a MORTH official. 

Under the proposed plan, the ropeway is set to extend across two segments. The first stretch spans from Bhandariya Hanuman Temple to Samai Mata Temple, covering 0.85 km. The second leg connects Samai Mata Temple to Madareshwar Temple, resulting in a total distance of 4.5 km, which is about 500 meters longer than the Aluri ropeway.

Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari initially proposed building 16 ropeways in Rajasthan. However, primary project reports (PPRs) for 14 ropeways were sent to MORTH because the remaining two projects already had detailed project reports (DPRs) prepared and construction had commenced on them.

"The shortest of the ropeways is in Jaipur which would cover a distance of 0.395 km from Gaitore Ki Chatri to Nahargarh Fort. Another ropeway linking Kelwara in Rajsamand with the Kumbhalgarh Fort would cover a distance of 3.05 km." said an official.
