Udaipur: Inner City Faces Water Issues Despite New System

Inconsistent water supply timing is also causing trouble for residents...

The Smart City has set up a system to provide 24-hour water to the inner city. They have installed water tanks and filters on Machla Magra. Water is sourced from Pichola, treated, and supplied to 18 wards.

However, despite supplying 23 million liters per day (MLD) to meet a need of just 16 MLD, there are still complaints about water shortages. The problem is that people are not using water efficiently. Leaks in old pipes are causing clean water to flow onto streets for hours. Inconsistent water supply timing is also causing trouble for residents.

Fixing these issues could help ensure a steady supply of clean water for everyone.

  1. Water will be available 24 hours a day only if people turn on the tap, fill a glass, and then turn it off again.
  2. A dripping tap can waste up to 90 liters of water per week.
  3. Leaving the water running while brushing your teeth wastes 9 liters per minute.
  4. Instead of storing large amounts of water, fill only two to three containers and use the remaining water regularly.
  5. Instead of pouring old water from the tap onto the streets, use it wisely every day.
