Udaipur Double Murder - Residents raise questions on security of citizens
Two elderly women belonging to the Dawoodi Bohra community were found murdered at their residence in Udaipur on 27 October.
Incident has sent shock waves through the city and residents are raising questions on security and safety of citizens.
Certain important facts have emanated during the investigation of the double murder of two elderly women in Udaipur on 27 October. The women were sisters and were staying together in the same bungalow. The watchman of the bungalow was away on Navratri vacation and had returned the very evening that the women were murdered. There was no evidence of any theft in the house, but the bodies of the two women bore injury marks that supposedly were made using a sharp weapon.
The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the family after the post mortem formalities were done with today afternoon. The son of one of the deceased, Tahir Saifi Hakim, who resides in Delhi, reached Udaipur and the last rites of the two are being performed at the time of writing this post. The police, meanwhile, are continuing their investigation based on the evidence collected from the scene of the crime and the post mortem reports.
Speaking to media, DySP Udaipur, Chandmal Singaria has said that the matter is being investigated on top priority. On the other hand, there is a lot of turmoil in the society in this context as well as the increasing cases of theft in this area and nearby areas that are populated significanctly by members of the Dawoodi Bohra community.
Addressing the media, the community spokesperson and member of the Congress, Ali Qausar said that grief accompanied by fear has enveloped the community after this incident that followed an incident of theft a couple of days back. He said that houses belonging to members of the Bohra community are being targetted, an issue that the police needs to take congnizance of.
Ali Asgar Sanwari, local counselor (Paarshad) of the area, has demanded immeidate arrest of the culprits nad strict action so that such incidents set an example. He also seconded Ali Qausar's statement, saying that many incidents in the past months have been reported from Fatehpura, Kharol Colony, Siphone, etc and these areas have a major population of the Dawoodi Bohra community. He suggested that Police should look at enhancing security and gasht in the area to mitigate the number of incidents.
What was the Incident
Two elderly women were found dead by the watchman of the house they resided in. This incident happened on Friday, 27 October. The house is situated in Diamond Colony in Navratan Complex, Udaipur. It is reported that when the watchman returned to the house after vacation, he noticed smoke coming out of the window, following which he raced up to the room and found the two women lying face down on the floor and dead. The neighbors were alerted by the watchman and they in turn informed the police. The police team, led by the DySP and SP and the forensic team came to the scene of the crime and investigations have begun.
