Udaipur Hotels Slash Prices Amid Decline in Tourist Numbers
Tourism in Udaipur awaits monsoon...
Udaipur is eagerly expecting the onset of the monsoon season as it seeks relief from the scorching heatwave in the region. Despite its relatively cooler climate, the city has not escaped the impact of the nationwide heatwave. Tourist arrivals in May dropped by 20% compared to last year, and as June progresses, the industry remains low-key except for weekends. In response, many hotels have discounted prices by up to 50% to attract visitors.
Tourists Interest in Hotels and Resorts with Pools
Industry insiders report that tourist footfall is below expectations for this time of year, although weekends see a noticeable influx of visitors. These tourists are showing particular interest in accommodations featuring pool rooms, villas, and pool resorts.
Current Pool Packages
To capitalize on visitor interest, numerous hotels and resorts are rolling out special pool packages. These packages range from Rs 700/- to 1500/-, offering access to pools along with lunch or dinner. Rakesh Chaudhary, Secretary of Hotel Institution South Rajasthan, noted a decline in tourist numbers this May compared to the post-COVID period, expressing optimism for a revival with the arrival of the monsoon.
Off-Season Packages
Currently in the off-season, tourism packages are available until June 30, after which the peak season is expected to resume. During this off-season period, hotels are offering two-night, three-day packages priced between Rs 5,000/- to 20,000/-, inclusive of accommodation and meals, with discounts of up to 50%.
Due to prevailing heat conditions, tourists are delaying their bookings for these packages, prompting extensions until June 30. Following this, the tourism landscape is poised to shift with the advent of the monsoon season. Last year, discounts during this period remained at 30%. Monsoon showers are forecasted to arrive in Udaipur around June 25, marking the beginning of the tourism monsoon season.
Tourism in Udaipur is beginning to see a resurgence as visitors from states including Delhi, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have started arriving. The tourism department had previously marketed this region, including Udaipur, as a monsoon destination. In a strategic move, the department invited prominent bloggers and influencers to tour cities like Udaipur, Banswara and Rajsamand during the rainy season. These influencers, with millions of followers on social media, created videos showcasing the natural beauty of these locales, which were widely shared. The department actively promoted these videos to boost tourist arrivals during the monsoon, a tactic that yielded positive results last year.
