Udaipur Smart City STP Project at MB Hospital Faces Two-Month Delay

Task of connecting 565 points related to hospital sewage is still pending...

Six months ahead of the planned schedule, the Smart City Municipal Corporation asserted the completion of the Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at MB Hospital, Udaipur. Unfortunately, there is a two-month delay from the initially set date. Despite Smart Project officials finishing nearly all construction of the plant by the October deadline, the critical task of connecting 565 points related to hospital sewage is still pending. The completion is now anticipated by December,2023. Despite the delay, there is a positive development as the treatment from the points linked to the plant has already started.

Before this, the Smart City claimed they would finish building the plant by June 2023, spending Rs 10.35 crores on it. In simple terms, sewage and dirty water will go through pipes and channels to reach the plant. Then, the plant will clean this waste. The clean water will go back into the channels, and the remaining waste will be turned into fertilizers. However, there is a problem with roads dug in the hospital area to lay the three-kilometer-long sewage lines to the plant. The roads are blocked, making it hard to connect the long lines to the plant.

The agency digging up the roads will make them better after finishing their job according to the contract. But they have only fixed the holes with cement and asphalt where they dug. The patched-up road can be risky for accidents because vehicles might not be controlled well.

“The hospital roads were in good shape before they built the plant. While constructing, they dug up all the roads. Now, the agency just patched up the holes. We have talked to Smart City officials about fixing the roads properly.” - Dr R.L Suman
