Udaipur NCC Cadets to Join Ganga Sailing Expedition
A unique sailing expedition led by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) is currently underway, charting a route along the Ganga River from Kanpur to Kolkata. This journey, which spans around 1,200 kilometers, features 528 naval cadets from 17 NCC directorates across the country.
Expedition Overview
The expedition, a tribute to India's rich maritime culture, highlights the cultural significance of India's rivers. Commander Shakeel Ahmed, Commanding Officer of the 1 Raj Naval Unit NCC in Udaipur, shared that the expedition will pass through key regions in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal, celebrating India’s river heritage.
The journey is divided into six phases. It began on October 21 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and will conclude on December 20 in Kolkata. The cadets will navigate through different river sections, covering long distances and engaging in various cultural and adventurous activities along the way.
In the expedition's second phase, a team from Rajasthan, led by Commander Shakeel Ahmed of the 1 Raj Naval Unit NCC, will represent Udaipur. The team includes 24 cadets and three PI staff members. They will travel 205 kilometers on the Ganga River from Prayagraj to Varanasi from November 6 to November 12, 2024.
