Udaipur Sees High Pollution Levels After Diwali

After two years, pollution levels have once again crossed the 200 mark

After Diwali celebrations, Udaipur has recorded significant air pollution levels, surpassing other cities like Jodhpur, Ajmer, Kota, and Alwar. On October 31 and November 1, the average Air Quality Index (AQI) in Udaipur reached 207, which is 14 points higher than last year’s 193. Fortunately, the AQI dropped to 127 on Saturday, November 2.

Jaipur's Air Quality Improves

In contrast, Jaipur experienced improved air quality during Diwali. About a week prior to the festival, the AQI in Jaipur ranged from 300 to 400, but it fell to 232 on Diwali day. Last year, AQI levels had reached alarming highs, with four areas recording levels of 500. This year, Bhiwadi saw an AQI of 373, Jodhpur recorded 201, and Udaipur noted 207. An AQI above 100 is considered harmful to health.

Factors Behind Udaipur’s Pollution Levels

The relatively lower pollution levels in Udaipur this year can be attributed to clear weather and the absence of fog. Last year's pollution level in Udaipur was 193, while it was 196 in 2022 and 264 in 2021. After two years, pollution levels have once again crossed the 200 mark.

Surprising AQI Figures in Alwar and Kota

Alwar and Kota recorded surprisingly low AQI levels this year. Typically, due to their proximity to the Delhi NCR region and the impact of thermal plants, these cities experience AQI levels near 300 during Diwali. This year, Kota's AQI was 132, while Alwar recorded 110.

Drop in Nighttime Temperatures

In addition to air quality concerns, clear weather has led to a drop in nighttime temperatures across the region. Last night, 15 cities reported minimum temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius, with Udaipur recording the lowest at 15.3 degrees.

Temperature Readings Across Cities

Other cities also reported lower temperatures, including Sikar at 15.5 degrees, Hanumangarh at 15.7 degrees, Churu at 17.8 degrees, Anta Baran at 17.6 degrees, Bhilwara at 17.2 degrees, and Jaipur at 20.0 degrees.

Weather Forecast

According to the meteorological department, the drop in temperatures is due to clear weather and north-western winds. The department has forecasted that daytime and nighttime temperatures will remain 2 to 3 degrees above normal over the next two weeks.
