Shilpgram Hosts Seven-Day Painting Workshop in Goa
A seven-day painting workshop is currently underway in Goa, organized by the Western Region Cultural Centre, Shilpgram, and Kala Sanskriti Goa. The event highlights the vibrant cultural art of various Indian states.
The workshop has attracted attention for its focus on the "Kachhi Ghodi" dance, depicted by artists on canvas. This traditional dance has become a central feature of the exhibition. Besides this, the artists are also capturing the essence of Goa's rich art and culture.
Fourteen artists from across India are participating, including two from Udaipur, Ashita Kothari and Dr. Deepika Mali. They are creating artworks on two canvases each, measuring 30 inches by 36 inches. The paintings explore themes ranging from tribal and traditional art to modern and contemporary subjects.
Artists from other states include Dwaiti Mahajan and Dr. Sadanand D. Chaudhary from Maharashtra, Lekha Narayanan from Kerala, Sunil Kumar Singh from Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Vishwajit Mitra and Subha Basu from West Bengal, and Priya Anand Puriyaani from Gujarat.
The workshop will conclude on August 29. The completed paintings will be exhibited at the Shilpgram Festival Exhibition in December. This initiative by the Western Region Cultural Centre aims to promote and preserve the folk art and cultural heritage of the states under its jurisdiction, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
