Udaipur has consistently demonstrated excellence in its smart city initiatives. Within the state, it has consistently held the top position in the overall rankings right from the inception of the program. In the broader national context, Udaipur now holds the 7th position, marking a notable jump of 2 ranks among the ongoing efforts in the development of 100 cities across the country. Adding to this achievement, Udaipur's distinction grew even more apparent recently, as the Center bestowed upon it three awards in recognition of its outstanding urban development efforts. This underscores Udaipur's commitment to being at the forefront of smart city development and its dedication to creating a sustainable and innovative urban environment.

In this context, cities with a population of less than one million have consistently led the country in their smart city endeavors. Among the 118 ongoing projects within the Smart City Project in Udaipur, an impressive 106 have already reached completion, leaving 12 projects currently pending. Notably, among these 12, approximately 9 projects have made substantial progress, nearing 80% completion, with the exception of the Ayad river beautification project. Two specific undertakings, namely the Gulab Bagh parking and sewage lifting station projects, have encountered legal challenges that have resulted in their current state of delay.

Among the 106 successfully accomplished projects, significant initiatives such as the construction of the potter's kiln flyover, the establishment of a CC road within the Wall City, heritage conservation efforts, enhanced parking facilities, the establishment of the Abhay command center, the development of smart roads, the creation of a sewage treatment plant (STP), and the establishment of a solid waste management plant are poised to directly benefit the public. Collectively, these Smart City initiatives are poised to bring substantial relief to both the 1.25 lakh residents of Wall City and the annual influx of 10 lakh tourists.

Currently, there are twelve ongoing projects encompassing various aspects such as drinking water supply, electricity lines, Ayad river beautification, parking facilities, and the establishment of a sewage treatment plant (STP) in the hospital. Among these, nine projects have reached an advanced stage of completion, achieving around 90% progress. These endeavors hold the potential not only to enhance the city's aesthetic appeal but also to alleviate issues stemming from uncleanliness. 

It is worth noting that the cumulative count of projects within the smart city initiative stands at 111. This tally includes a consolidation of works related to the sewerage-drinking water supply network, HT-LT cables, overhead (OH) lines, drainage systems, and targeted pipes. As per the official roster, five projects remain incomplete, and regrettably, one project is yet to be initiated.

Up to this point, a sum of Rs. 806 crores has been expended across 106 completed projects. When accounting for the ongoing endeavors, the cumulative expenditure extends to Rs. 917 crores. The comprehensive budget allocated for these endeavors amounts to Rs. 1221 crores. Of this allocation,Rs. 990 crores have already been acquired, Rs.500 crores from the Center, Rs. 300 crores from the state, and Rs. 100 crores each from Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Urban Improvement Trusts (UITs). However, a balance of Rs. 231 crores is still pending receipt. Within the state, Jaipur secures the 11th rank, while Kota holds the 15th position. Notably, Ajmer falls outside the top-15 rankings. At the national level, Surat leads the pack, followed by Agra in the second position, Ahmedabad in third, and Varanasi in fourth.
