Udaipur Municipal Corporation Struggles with Waste Management

Waste that is supposed to be collected twice a day is only picked up every two days

The Udaipur Municipal Corporation is facing criticism for its inability to maintain cleanliness in the city. The situation is dire, as garbage collection is inadequate, impacting both the outskirts and main roads.

Infrequent Garbage Collection

Waste that is supposed to be collected twice a day is only picked up every two days. As a result, stray animals are scattering garbage across the streets, creating an unhygienic environment.

Bhad Bhuja Ghati Area Affected

In the Bhad Bhuja Ghati area of the inner city, garbage has not been collected for five days. Residents have shared photos and videos of the situation on social media, prompting the corporation to take action and clean the area.

Insufficient Waste Collection Points

The Municipal Corporation claims to have established 155 waste collection points across 70 wards, with garbage collection scheduled twice daily. However, about 15 of these wards fall under UDA, where cleaning efforts are stalled due to a lack of tenders.

Contract Issues and Scattered Waste

The contract for garbage collection in the remaining wards ended 22 days ago, leading to ineffective waste management. Garbage is now scattered along major roads, including those between Udiapole and Govardhan Villas, and from Court Chauraha to Pratap Nagar. The condition in UDA areas is particularly concerning.
