The University Grants Commission (UGC) has taken a significant step to address the issue of ragging prevalent in higher education institutions nationwide. In a bid to tackle this problem effectively, colleges are now mandated to establish Anti-Ragging Committees at the district level.

According to the directive issued by the UGC, the Anti-Ragging Committee at the district level must be chaired by the District Collector/Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate. Additionally, key members of the committee include the head of the university or college, the Police Superintendent of the district, with the Additional District Magistrate serving as the secretary.

UGC Secretary, Prof. Manish R. Joshi, has initiated proactive measures to implement this directive effectively. He has corresponded with Chief Secretaries of all states, urging them to establish district-level Anti-Ragging Committees, including in Rajasthan.

In a move to ensure active monitoring of events and swift action against instances of ragging, the committee is advised to incorporate representatives from various stakeholders. These include local media, district-level NGOs, student organizations, local police, along with representatives from local administration and institutional authorities.
