November 26, 2024 - The Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, located on the Subansiri river along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, is almost complete. By March 2025, three of the eight planned units (each producing 250 MW) will begin working. This project will eventually provide electricity to 17 states, including Rajasthan.

Currently, about 3,000 workers are working day and night on the project, which is 95-96% finished. The full project, once completed by May 2026, will be the largest conventional power project in India.

Here’s how the electricity will be distributed

• Assam will get 533 MW

• Arunachal Pradesh and neighboring states like Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, and Mizoram will share 198 MW

• Northern states like Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh will receive 387 MW

• Western states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Goa will get 613 MW

This project will be a major source of electricity for many states in India.
