Several village panchayats that have now fallen within Udaipur's city limits are stuck in a difficult situation. While they fall under the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Department, their location in the UDA (Udaipur Development Authority) periphery means they rely on the Municipal Corporation for basic services like sanitation. However, no department is taking their issues seriously.

Villages like Shobhagpura, Bedla, Bhuwana, Sukher, Savina, Badi, Badgaon, Titardi, and many others face this problem. Despite urbanization, these villages have been waiting for years to be included in the Municipal Corporation’s boundary. However, the government's lack of action has prevented any classification changes.

Delayed Expansion Proposals

In 2012, the Udaipur Municipal Corporation sent proposals for boundary expansion to the state government, but no action has been taken in the last 12 years. The file continues to circulate through various government offices. As Panchayati Raj elections approach next year, villagers worry that if a decision isn’t made soon, they will face another five years of struggles. 

The last time Udaipur’s city boundary was expanded was in 1969, when areas like Goverdhan Vilas and Pratap Nagar were included. Since then, no expansion has taken place, even though many villages have developed into urban areas.

Protests Due to Lack of Sanitation

The district administration has assigned the responsibility of sanitation in UDA periphery villages to the Municipal Corporation, but the situation remains unchanged. On Thursday, September 12, 2024 local residents, along with Sarpanch and other representatives, staged a protest in Shobhagpura due to unresolved issues. Although Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena arrived to address the matter, no solution was found.

Similarly, in Bedla, garbage collection vehicles have not arrived for several days, despite complaints from the Sarpanch to UDA officials. The problem persists, leaving residents frustrated with the lack of action.
