Wall, Trees Collapse Due to Rain, No Casualties

An hour long rain shower accompanied by a strong wind came as a much needed relief to Udaipurites from the scorching heat. However, the rain & wind combo also brought a lot of hassles in different parts of the city as half a dozen tree branches fell on the busy roads affecting traffic and a wall collapsed in the old city area damaging a neighborhood house and disrupting electricity in the area.

A wall collapsed in the old city area of Dhan Mandi smashing the adjoining neighborhood wall and bringing down an electric pole. The incident was reported today afternoon when the wall of an under construction house of Ashok Lodha gave way due to heavy rain and collapsed on the opposite house and the shop underneath. The power supply of the area was disrupted as a result of the coming down of the electric pole.

Fire Brigade and Police immediately rushed to the spot and took precautionary measures to avoid any further mishap.

Report of tree branches, big and small, breaking off were reported in many areas including Kumharo Ka Bhatta, Surajpol, Bapu Bazar etc. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported.

Further, with just one hour of continuous rain showers, water logging on roads was also reported from many areas. The big question now is – Is the city administration prepared for the upcoming monsoon or will it be another sorry story like many a past years?
