Udaipur's Ayad River beautification project, carried out by Smart City officials at a cost of Rs 72 crore, has suffered significant damage due to strong water flow. Stones that were placed in various areas have been uprooted and washed away, with some sections completely broken apart.

Just a day before the damage, officials were seen inspecting the site and expressing satisfaction with the progress. However, the very next day, areas like Subhash Nagar and surrounding regions showed missing stones in several places. The grass planted along the river could not withstand the water flow and was washed away.

Rs 72 Crore Spent on 5 km Stretch

The beautification project covered a 5 km stretch of the Ayad River, from Sevashram to the new Bhuwana bridge. As part of the work, a wide canal was built in the middle of the river to control water flow.

In addition, a 30-foot-wide area was developed on both sides of the canal. Every 100 feet, Bijolia stones were placed, and raw patches were left every 50 feet, where grass was planted. However, most of the grass has been damaged by the water flow.

Future Plans Under the Project

The project also includes plans to bring water from the STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) near the FCI warehouse and release it into the upper part of the canal.

Along the pathway, benches are to be installed for sitting, and high-mast lights are planned to illuminate most of the 5 km  stretch. However, with the current damage, more issues may be revealed as the river's water flow increases.
