Birth of India's greatest Merchant

Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy was born on 15 July 1783. He was a Parsi-Indian merchant who made a fortune in cotton and opium trade with China. At the age of 16, after both his parents had died, he made his first journey to Calcutta and then to China to explore trade possibilities. This was the first of his many journeys. His fifth journey was the one that helped him begin his fortune churning. The Mahim Causeway, linking Mahim to Bandra was built after his wife Avabai spent Rs 1,55800 to finance its constructions. He donated Rs 1,00,000 to build Sir JJ Hospital His contribution to education include the Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy School of Art, the Sir J. J. College of Architecture, the Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art and the Seth R.J.J. High School. The Bombay Samachar was helped substantially by Sir JJ; The Bombay Times, launched in 1838 by a syndicate or persons that included Sir JJ, went on the become The Times of India. Jejeebhoy's services were first recognised by the British Empire in 1842 by the bestowal of a knighthood and in 1857 by the award of a baronetcy. These were the very first distinctions of their kind conferred by Queen Victoria upon a British subject in India.

Twitter available to public on 15 July 2006

The world's biggest microblogging and social networking service, Twitter was made available to public. Odeo, the San Francisco based company officially released Twttr, which was later changed to Twitter - its short messaging service, officially to the general public. Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Noah Glass and Biz Stone, the founders of Twitter announced this platform to the public, which began with short messaging services betwen users and has now evolved into one of the biggest microblogging platforms. "Usne Tweet kiya" is more publicly recognised than "uskey FB pe aaya" or "unke WhatsApp pe aaya". Dorsey fired the first message as "just setting up my twttr" on 21 March 2006 and Twttr went to the public domain on 15 July 2006.

President Rajendra Prasad, the first President of the Indian Republic announced the Bharat Ratna for Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 15 July 1955.

First Car order received by Ford

Ford Motor Company took its fist order Dr Ernst Pfenning, a Chicago based dentist. The $850 order was received on 15 July 1903, a month after the Ford Motor Company was officially formed. Henyry Ford took along 12 stockholders and formed this company in mid June 1903. A month later they received their first order, that of a two cylinder (Model A) automobile with a tonneau (backseat). The car was delivered in a week. It was painted red and had no top. It could accomodate two people on a bench side by side.Within two months of the first order, the company sold 215 cars and by the end of the year the Mack Avenue plant turned out 1,000 cars.

Bruce Willis - a star is born with Die Hard

The action film Die Hard released in theatres on 15 July 1988, making Bruce Willis 'John McClane" the new action hero of Hollywood. Based on Roderick Thorp's novel "Nothing Lasts Forever", this movie spawned three sequels and the term Die Hard became a shorthand for describing other such films. Bruce came out on top as a new kind of action hero, flawed and funny. Die Hard took Willis through three sequels and some memorable roles in movies like Pulp Fiction, Twelve Monkeys, Armageddon and Oscar nominated The Sixth Sense.
