Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat formalizes norms for solidarity and Social Distancing during Ramadan

Local Community Masjids will not permit more than 1 person. Central body appeals to follow Social Distancing as a ritual like other compulsions during the month of Ramadan

Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat, administrative body of the reformist Bohra Youth Association in Udaipur has issued directives to the community members on arrangements during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

As per directives that have been sent to all the Masjid committees under the Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat, the Secretary of the Jamaat has made it clear that there will be complete adherence to lockdown norms.  In his letter issued to all Masjid committees active in Udaipur, the Secretary of Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat has issued strict instructions that ONLY 1 person will be allowed in the Masjid to announce the Azaan and pray in the Masjid.  This norm will be followed throughout the 30 days of Ramadan. Permission for jamaat Namaaz under Imam has been revoked with immediate effect.

Instructions of the Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat have been further validated by an appeal by the Central Board of Dawoodi Bohra Community (CBDBC), Mumbai. Mansoor Ali Bohra, Chairman of the CBDBC, in an appeal to the community, requested that Social DistIancing needs to be followed as much as the other compulsions in the month of Ramadan.  Namaz at home is an important element to indulge in the compulsion of Social Distancing and isolation at home and must be followed in spirit. He added that the head of the family can fulfil the role of Imam at home and that senior clergy across the world have asked muslims to adhere to the same, including the religious leaders of the Dawoodi Bohra sect.

Secretary of Bohra Youth Association, Anees Miyaji, in his interaction with UdaipurTimes, said that since the day of imposition of lockdown in Udaipur, the association, along with other bodies like the Medical Relief Society, have been regularly distributing masks and sanitizers to those in need.  Apart from this, food packets and ration have been distributed till 17 April, to localities and homes that are affected by the lock down.  Distribution of free food packets and ration covered areas across the city, like Bohrawadi, Bhoiwara, Dhan Mandi, Khanjipeer, Savina, Mulla Talai, Neemuchkheda, Tiger Hills, etc.

Anees Miyaji, who is also the President of the Bohra Youth Medical Relief Society also said that the community will continue to distribute Ration to the needy during the Holy Month. Sarfraz Ali, Secretary of the Medical Relief Society said that bulk distribution of food packets ceased on 17 April as per instructions of the administration. He said that if anyone comes across areas of families who seem to be in need, they can inform the same and the household will be taken cared of.
