The environmentalist is on a mission to promote environment conservation; has planted over 31,000 trees
Udaipur, November 21, 2024 - Virag Madhumalati, a playback singer and environmentalist, who is on a 1,200-kilometre walking expedition to spread awareness about tree planting and environmental preservation, reached Udaipur yesterday. Starting on September 14 from Navi Mumbai, he has already covered 961 kilometres. His journey will conclude at Nakoda Bhairav Dev Temple.
On his journey, Virag takes on tree plantation activities wherever feasible. His team has planted more than 31,000 trees; the goal is to plant 100,000 trees.
The environmentalist is the holder of a World Record for walking 111 kilometres non-stop for 24 hours. This achievement was recognised by the World Record Book of India. Previously, he has been listed in the Guinness World Records five times for his contributions.
Virag’s goal is to promote environmental awareness. Throughout his walk, he avoids using plastic water bottles. He engages with local communities during night halts through devotional music inspiring and educating them on environment protection.
His wife, Vandana Wankhade is his support system and accompanies him on his journey, managing logistics for the team.
In the past, Virag has tried to promote eye donation by living as a visually impaired person for 100 days, covering his eyes with a blindfold. Despite health issues, he only removed the blindfold after completing the initiative of spreading awareness about the importance of eye donation.
