Rampant deforestation in Udaipur needs to be swiftly mitigated, else the future is bleak for the City of Lakes
A joint research by scientists from Imperial College and University College of London might force some sanity into the rampant deforestation in and around Udaipur, which is called the City of Lakes and Gardens. This study can lead urban developers to take a more insightful approach towards development projects in line with environmental friendliness.
As per the research, brain development is enhanced by living alongside flora and comparative greener environments. Presence of greenery in and around homes facilitates better psychological and behavioral characteristics in growing children. In other words, it reduces emotional and behavioral problems to an extent.
There was a 16% reduction in the mental stress levels and behavioral issues among children who were subjected to this research. In the study, the relationship between the various types of natural, urban environments, the relationship between rain development, mental health and overall welfare was studied. The results revealed that presence of emotional and behavioral problems was 16% lower in teenagers staying in location surroounded by flora or pastures.
The research, conducted jointly by scientists from London's Imperial College and Universal College, had a sample size of 3,568 students between ages 9-15years, from 31 schools across London. After conducting their tests, the scientist concluded in their research paper that there are positive effects of greener surroundings on the developning psych of a growing child. There was an increase in problem solving abilities as well as mental peace.
