Lavish Ordia of Udaipur bags 18th spot in UPSC Mains - first attempt success

This year out of 927 vacancies to be filled, 180 vacancies are available for I.A.S cadre, 24 for I.F.S cadre, 150 for I.P.S cadre, 438 vacancies for Central Services Group ‘A’ and 135 vacancies for Group ‘B’ services. 829 candidates have been selected this year.
 

Lavish Ordia of Udaipur is among 2 candidates from Rajasthan who have secured a position in the top 20 at the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2019, the results of which were announced on Tuesday, 4 August.

Lavish, who secured 18th AIR belongs to a middle class family from Udaipur. His father, Mukesh Ordia runs a paints shop in Hathipol, Udaipur and his mother Hema is a housewife. This was Lavish's first attempt at the examination and he finds himself in the top 20. He is joined in the top 20 by Ajay Jain from Sawai Madhopur, who ranked 12th. This was Ajay's fifth attempt at the examination and he has cleared it the third time. He bagged rank 141 last year and is currently undergoing IPS training at Moradabad. Pari Bishnoi rank 30 from Ajmer and Shishir Gupta rank 50 are the other two from Rajasthan who have made the top honours.

Lavish is a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay. Subsequent to completing his engineering, he worked for 3 years in Bangalore and then continued on to the United States. He returned from the United States in 2018 to pursue his dream of joining the civil services. Persistence, timeliness and focus on his goal helped him in achieve this rank in his very first attempt, says Lavish. 

On returning from the US, he migrated to Delhi, where he underwent training and coaching for the examinations. Apart from classroom studies, he went the online route and studied the online study material as well.

He says that though his IAS dream was intact from the very beginning, he wanted to get corporate experience as well. He cut short his stint in the US to return and pursue his IAS dream.

His family consists of his grand parents and an elder brother, all of whom supported his dream and motivated him towards this goal.
