40 year old News Anchor Rohit Sardana passes away after being diagnosed with COVID19

40 year old “Dangal” anchor at Aaj Tak, Rohit Sardana, succumbed to heart failure today morning. Rohit was diagnosed with COVID some days ago and was under treatment at hospital.

Rohit was a familiar face on TV with his “Thaal Thok Ke” and :”Dangal” debate shows. Just a day before his death, he was always present on social media to help those who were in the clutches of the pandemic. He was continuously coordinating to provide Remdesivir, oxygen, hospital beds, medicines, etc.

On 24 April, Rohit had himself taken to Twitter to declare that he was COVID positive.

Editor-in-Chief of Zee News Sudhir Chaudhary, Rajdeep Sardesai are among the other media personalities who have expressed shock over the death of Rohit Sardana.

Earlier during the afternoon, when the news of Rohit's passing away was everywhere on social media, his parent channel Aaj Tak made no mention of the episode and continued with the Exit Polls.  This drew much criticism on social media. Aaj Tak News Channel did not even bothered to broadcast the news on its platform then, which was eventually done after Twitter castigated the channel for its absurd behavior.

Prior to joining Aaj Tak, where he hosted “Dangal”, Rohit had served Zee Media for a long time and was anchoring the show “Thaal Thok Ke”. These shows had classified him in the category of “Paltu Patrakaar” or Reporters who are close to a certain political party.

Prior to the General Elections in 2014, Rohit had hosted a program on Zee News titled Kamakshetra which reported the state of political accountability in India. Sardana questioned members of parliament on their work and culminated with a detailed report card of the work of the MPs.
