Renowned Designer Rohit Bal Passes Away at 63
Renowned Indian designer Rohit Bal passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024 at the age of 63. Bal, who had been a trendsetter in the fashion industry, was known for his unique designs that blended traditional Indian aesthetics with modern fashion.
Bal had been facing health challenges in recent years, particularly after suffering a heart ailment last year. Despite his health struggles, he made a recent comeback at the Lakme Fashion Week, rejoining the fashion circuit just weeks before his passing.
The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) confirmed the news of his death through a heartfelt post on their official Instagram handle. Bal’s work has been widely celebrated for bringing India’s cultural heritage to the global stage with a contemporary twist.
Born in 1961 in Srinagar, Bal completed his studies in History from St Stephen’s College in Delhi. He initially worked with his brother’s export company before launching his own menswear line in 1990, focusing on designs that highlighted traditional Indian craftsmanship.
Bal leaves behind a legacy as a visionary who challenged norms and elevated Indian fashion to new heights. His passing marks a significant loss for the fashion community in India and beyond.
