Rahul Gandhi Backs Trump Jibe of 'Indian Economy is Dead'
Rahul Gandhi blames Modi-Adani nexus for the economic collapse
July 31, 2025 - Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi has come down heavily on the Narendra Modi-led Central government calling it responsible for killing India’s economy.
Talking to reporters outside Parliament House in New Delhi, today July 31, Gandhi said the whole world knows the Indian economy is “dead” except for the Prime Minister and Finance Minister.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha was referring to US President Donald Trump describing the Indian economy as “dead”.
"Yes, he is right. Everybody knows this except the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. Everybody knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. I am glad that President Trump has stated a fact... The entire world knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy, " Gandhi said, adding, “The BJP has finished the economy to help Adani”.
Trump had made this remark in reference to India’s trade ties with Russia.
“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care,” Trump had posted on Truth Social on July 30, adding “We have done very little business with India, their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World.”
Gandhi also took to X to further express his views writing, "THE INDIAN ECONOMY IS DEAD. Modi killed it. 1. Adani-Modi partnership 2. Demonetisation and a flawed GST 3. Failed ‘Assemble in India’ 4. MSMEs wiped out 5. Farmers crushed
He said the Prime Minister had destroyed the future of India’s youth because there were no jobs.
Yesterday July 30, the US President had announced a 25% tariff on all goods imported from India plus an unspecified "penalty" on India's oil and defence purchases from Russia. Trump also announced sanctions on at least six Indian companies for engaging in petroleum trade with Iran.
