Udaipur, October 19, 2024 - The Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) has announced Jitesh Katara as its candidate from the Salumber Assembly constituency, while Anil Katara will contest from the Chaurasi Assembly constituency in Dungarpur district for the upcoming by-elections in both constituencies of Udaipur division.

Meanwhile, both BJP and Congress are yet to finalise their candidates for Salumber and Chaurasi. However, there is speculation that Congress may once again field Raghuveer Singh Meena from Salumber. Similarly, the BJP is likely to nominate Sushil Katara again from Chaurasi.

Readers may recall that the Salumber seat fell vacant owing to the demise of BJP MLA Amritlal Meena. In the 2023 Assembly elections in Salumber, Amritlal Meena secured 80,086 votes, while the nearest Congress candidate received 65,395 votes. BAP's Jitesh Meena (Katara) garnered 51,691 votes. Jitesh Meena (Katara) is once again contesting the elections.

As for the Chaurasi Assembly seat, it became vacant after BAP MLA Rajkumar Roat was elected Member of Parliament from the Dungarpur-Banswara Lok Sabha seat. Now, Anil Katara from BAP will contest from this seat. Anil is currently a District Council member and will be contesting the Assembly elections for the first time.
