Another Plan in Udaipur for World Bicycle Day - Cycle and Click on 3 June
3 June was declared as WorldBicycleDay after a resolution was passed by the United Nations in 2018. This was done to acknowledge the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean, environmentally fit and sustainable transportation mode, fostering environmental stewardship and health.
The fourth edition is tomorrow, 3 June, and the community of Bicycle Mayors across the world are taking up various initiatives in their respective cities. For Udaipur, the theme is "Cycling City of my Dreams". There are related competitions being planned for 3 June, which include slogan writing, painting, on this theme. The entries need to be sent before the 3 June to ar_yougal@yahoo.com OR avengerscycleclub@gmail.com. The word limit for writeup is 1000 words.
Another parallel action that needs to be taken by even those not participating in the competition, is that you need to post a photo of yours with your cycle on any of the social media channels, viz. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc with a "wave of the hand" near any major landmark in Udaipur. Make sure you do not break the lockdown norms though. This photo needs to be posted with the hashtag @World Bicycle Day @RTDC #WorldBicycleDay #ChooseBicycle #ChooseFitness #ROllingWave #UdaipurHistoricalMOnuments #SustainableTransport #EnvironmentFriendly. Additionally, you can also tag @Yougal @BicycleMayorofUdaipur @Mharicycle @BYCS_org @BYCSIndia. Considering lockdown restrictions, older pics near major Udaipur landmarks can also be posted.
This will only encourage stakeholders to emphasize and advance the use of the bicycle as a means of fostering sustainable development, strengthening physical education for children and young people, promoting health, preventing disease, well-being and developing a culture of cycling in society by taking up various initiatives at city, state & national level.
The event is being coordinated by Yougal Tak, the Bicycle Mayor of Udaipur, with support from Avengers Cycles. Prizes from related competitions on the same day include cycling-accessories worth Rs. 15,000/-.
