Preparations in Full Swing for District-Level Rajiv Gandhi Olympics in Udaipur

Olympics set to kick off in September, 2023

 

The Rajiv Gandhi Rural and Urban District-level Olympics are set to commence once again, featuring a range of competitions scheduled from September 1 to September 6. The Sports Department is actively preparing for this event. The Olympics will witness the participation of 3,460 players who will showcase their endurance and determination for victory. The triumphant team from this event will go on to represent Udaipur in the state-level competition. The sports to be contested include Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Basketball, Athletics, Football, Volleyball, and Tennis Cricket.

The grand opening ceremony of this competition will take place at Maharana Bhupal Stadium. The Olympic preparations are under continuous review at the departmental level, with three to four meetings held so far to ensure everything is on track. Accommodation arrangements have been meticulously organized by the sports department for the participating players. Moreover, each playing field has been equipped with 30 PTIs (Physical Training Instructors) to oversee the games. Additionally, 21 coaches have been assigned to facilitate the various sports. According to available information, the district-level competition will see participation from 2,660 players from the block level and 800 players from the municipal area, all converging in Udaipur for these games.

The competitions are scheduled to take place at specific grounds. District Sports Officer Sunita Bhandari mentioned that the number of players has been taken into consideration while designating the venues. These contests are set to be conducted at Maharana Bhupal Stadium, BN College, MB College, Meera Girls College.

Rural women will participate in a tug-of-war competition as part of the Olympics. Instead of basketball, this event has been arranged specifically for women from rural areas. Additionally, a Kho-Kho competition is also scheduled for rural women in the same context.
