ICC Champions Trophy: Pakistan Being Pushed for Hybrid Model
BCCI had said India would not participate if matches are played in Pakistan
November 19, 2024 - As the deadlock over the venue for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy continues, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is leaning towards a hybrid model and efforts are on to persuade Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to agree to it.
BCCI had earlier said that Team India, one of the eight participating countries would not participate in the ICC games if it is held in Pakistan citing government restrictions. Pakistan is also not in the mood to accept a hybrid model which would allow India to play on neutral venues, likely the UAE. The impasse continues.
ICC sources said: “Back channel negotiations are underway to convince the PCB that adopting a hybrid model is the most pragmatic solution, given that India is unlikely to travel across the border for the 50-over tournament in February and March next year.”
The schedule for the Champions Trophy next year is expected to be out soon.
