"I Wanted to Take the Game Deep' - Captain Gill on How India Prevented an English Win

Talking about Bumrah’s injury, Gill said, "We will have to wait and see how ready he is."

July 28, 2025: The fourth match between India and England in Manchester ended in a draw. After the match, captain Shubman Gill praised the batsmen. He also spoke about whether Jasprit Bumrah will play the 5th Test or not. England is still leading the series 2-1, but the Indian team is still alive in the series. The next Test will be played in London from July 31.

After the match, Gill said, "I am very happy with the batting effort. We were under a lot of pressure for the last few days. On the fifth day, the pitch was doing something. Every ball was important. I wanted to play ball by ball and take the game deep, just like we had planned."

Talking about the handshake, Gill said that Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were close to scoring centuries, so they deserved a chance to get it.

Team’s fighting spirit

Gill said, "Every match goes on till the last session of the last day. I got to learn a lot. As a team, we also learned many things. It doesn’t matter how many runs you have scored before. Whenever you play a Test match, there is always some nervousness. This shows how much I care about playing for the country."

The Indian captain added, "We had scored well in the first innings. Many of our batsmen were set, and on these wickets, it was important for the set batsmen to play long. Sadly, that didn’t happen. But I am happy with how we played in the second innings."
