India Creates History; Crushes Australia by 295 Runs to Win Perth
This victory takes India ahead in the five match series by 1-0; Bumrah and Siraj both take three wickets apiece
November 25, 2024 – India crushed Australia by 295 runs in the first Test at Perth today thus creating history by registering the biggest-ever victory in terms of runs in Australia and in Tests. Yesterday on Day 3, Australia was set a target of 534 runs after India declared at 487 for six with five overs to go for the day. The hosts came in to bat and were quickly reduced to 12 for three at close of play.
With this win, India has taken a 1-0 series lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy being played in Australia.
Significantly, this is the team’s second-biggest win against the Aussies after the Mohali 320-run victory in 2008. India’s earlier record for the biggest win against Australia was way back in 1977 when the team led by Bishan Singh Bedi registered a 222-run victory in Melbourne.
Earlier on, Team India put up an all-round performance in the second innings with centuries from star player Virat Kohli (100*) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (161). Facing a huge total to chase, the Aussie batters crumbled under fiery spells from skipper Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. The world’s no. 1 ranked team could make only 238 before folding up.
Captain Bumrah has etched his name in history with an 8/72 match haul in the Perth Test. His is also among the best bowling figures by an Indian captain in Tests. In the second innings, both Bumrah and Siraj took three wickets each. Washington Sundar got two wickets.
