Manish Freeman-Man behind Flying Foxes
Manish Freeman Kataria created Frisbee team of Udaipur, one and only team of Rajasthan.
He is the master mind behind what is known to people as Flying Foxes-Udaipur’s Ultimate Frisbee team. Manish Freeman, 27, is responsible for creating this Frisbee team of Udaipur and giving it a place on world map.
Manish Kataria (that’s his real name) came to Udaipur to study mining engineering. He graduated in this field but somewhere he knew that he would not be working in mining industry. He wanted to connect with people and do something meaningful.
During his travels post college, he was introduced to Frisbee. It struck him that Udaipur didn’t have a team to play Ultimate and that’s when he decided to make a team. Since he himself wasn’t trained in it, he travelled to Ahmedabad, Pune and Hyderabad to train with the existing teams. He started working with schools and NGOs and made a good circle there. While he was still in Udaipur, Manish had shared his room with a Hyderabadi friend whose wife in turn welcomed him in their home in Hyderabad for months altogether. This Hyderabadi couple bought Manish his first Frisbee.
Manish then started with his own college with the help of Dream Catchers Team and found Frisbee players for his team. In 2014, first Frisbee team of Udaipur was introduced which later became the only team of Rajasthan. This first team and the only one is today proudly known as Flying Foxes. The team played their first tournament in January 2016 in Ahmedabad Ultimate Open.
It is all about being a free spirit and still staying connected.
