Neeraj Chopra wins Gold for India in Javelin - first in Athletics for India in Olympic History

Neeraj was touted as India's best bet for the Olympics and when he topped the qualifying round with stunning first round throw of 86.59m, all eyes were set on India's first Gold.This was Neeraj's first Olympics and the 23 old Subedar in the Indian Army got home what it takes years for athletes to achieve. An Olympic Gold!
Neeraj came into the Olympics with a year best throw of 88.07m. He did say that his build-up to the Olympics was challenging given the lack of competitive exposure.
In June 2021, Neeraj took a Bronze at the Kuortane Games landing 86.79m, while the Gold went to Johannes Vetter from Germany, who threw 93.59m.
