WCL 2025: Pakistan Stun England on Their Home Turf

Pakistan defeated England by 5 runs. Phil Mustard and Ian Bell scored half-centuries for England
 

July 19 2025 - The second season of the World Championship of Legends, hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board, started on Friday July 18. In the very first match, Pakistan defeated England by 5 runs. Phil Mustard and Ian Bell scored half-centuries for England. However, Pakistan’s captain Mohammad Hafeez also scored a 50, which led his team to victory.

Pakistan Scored 160 Runs First

Pakistan Champions batted first after losing the toss. They scored 160 runs in 20 overs and lost 9 wickets. The start was not very good. Sharjeel Khan made 12 runs from 15 balls. He got out in the fourth over. In the next over, Ryan Sidebottom got Kamran Akmal out for 8 runs.

Hafeez Played a Good Innings

Umar Amin scored only 6 runs. Shoaib Malik made just 1 run from 5 balls. Asif Ali scored 15 runs from 13 balls, and Sohaib Maqsood made only 2 runs. Captain Mohammad Hafeez played a strong innings. He scored 54 runs from 34 balls and hit 8 fours.

Lower Order Helped the Team

Sohail Tanvir made 17 runs from 11 balls. Sohail Khan scored 8 runs from 5 balls. These runs helped Pakistan go past 150. Later, these runs became important in Pakistan’s win. Liam Plunkett and Chris Tremlett took 2 wickets each for England.

England Could Not Chase the Target

England had to chase 161 runs but scored only 155 runs in 20 overs. They lost 3 wickets. Alastair Cook scored 7 runs from 15 balls. James Vince made 7 runs from 9 balls. Opener Phil Mustard played well and scored 58 runs from 51 balls with 8 fours. Ian Bell stayed not out with 51 runs from 35 balls. Captain Eoin Morgan also stayed not out with 16 runs from 12 balls.

 Tanvir, Aamir Yamin, and Rumman Raees took 1 wicket each for Pakistan.
