Rajasthan's Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal have made history at the Paris Paralympics 2024 by winning gold and bronze medals in the 10m Air Rifle standing SH1 event. This marks the first time in Paralympic history that two Indians have won medals in the same event.

Both Avani and Mona compete in the SH1 category, which includes athletes with movement impairments in their arms, lower trunk, or legs. Both athletes use wheelchairs.

Avani, from Jaipur, successfully defended her title from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics with a score of 249.7, slightly improving on her previous record of 249.6. This victory gives Avani her second Paralympic gold medal.

Mona, from Sikar, made her Paralympics debut with an impressive score of 228.7, earning her the bronze medal.

In a thrilling final, Avani trailed behind South Korea's Lee Yunri until the last shot. Under immense pressure, Lee scored just 6.8, while Avani kept her composure and fired a brilliant 10.5 to secure the gold.
