Paris 2024 Olympics: Rajasthan's Shooters Fall Short of Bronze
Maheshwari Chauhan and Jeet Singh Naruka narrowly missed out on the bronze medal in the skeet mixed team event at the Paris Olympics 2024. The pair finished fourth, just one point behind the bronze medalists, China’s Yiting Jiang and Jianlin Lyu. The event took place on July 5,2024. Maheshwari Chauhan is from Udaipur, while Anant Naruka is from Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Competing against top shooters like USA’s Vincent Hancock and Italy’s Gabriele Rossetti, the Indian team had a challenging field. Chauhan and Naruka both scored 43, while Jiang and Lyu scored 44 to claim third place.
In the qualification round, the Indian duo ended up tied for fourth place with a total of 146 points after three rounds. This required a shoot-off to decide the final placements.
Chauhan performed strongly in her final two rounds, achieving perfect scores of 50/50. Naruka scored 25, 23, and 24 in his rounds. Together, they accumulated 49 points in the first round, with Chauhan shooting 24/25 and Naruka scoring 25/25.
In the second round, Chauhan achieved a perfect score, but Naruka missed two shots, bringing their total to 48. In the final round, Chauhan scored 25 and Naruka 24, totaling 49 points.
Close Finishes for Indian Shooters
This near-miss is part of a series of close finishes for Indian shooters at these Olympics. Manu Bhaker also lost a chance at a medal after a shoot-off in the women’s 25m pistol event. Arjun Babuta finished fourth in the men’s 10m Air Rifle, and the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol duo of Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish Bhanwala finished outside the top six after disappointing final rounds.
