Mohammed Shami Speaks Out on Australia Tour Snub; Explains Captaincy Protocol

Even though Shami has played regularly in the IPL and domestic matches, the BCCI selectors did not pick him for the Australia tour. Now, Shami has spoken for the first time about not being selected for the tour

Mumbai, Oct 09, 2025: Team India’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been away from international cricket after playing for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Since then, he has been out of the team because of fitness issues.

Even though Shami has played regularly in the IPL and domestic matches, the BCCI selectors did not pick him for the Australia tour. Now, Shami has spoken for the first time about not being selected for the tour.

Mohammed Shami Breaks Silence

Mohammed Shami spoke on his YouTube channel and said there are many rumors and memes going around. People want to know why he was not selected for the Australia series. Shami said, “Selection is not in my hands. It is the job of the selection committee, coach, and captain. If they feel I should be in the team, they will call me. If they think I need more time, that’s their decision. I am ready and practicing regularly.”

Shami also said that his fitness is fine. He added, “It’s important to stay motivated when you are away from the field. I played in the Duleep Trophy and felt comfortable. My rhythm was good, and I bowled around 35 overs. There are no fitness issues.”

He also spoke about the captaincy change. Shami said, “Many memes are being made about this (laughs). I don’t think anyone should have a problem with it. The decision is made by the BCCI, selectors, and coaches. Shubman has led India in England and also captains Gujarat Titans, so he has experience. Someone had to take this role, and the BCCI chose Shubman. We should accept it. People shouldn’t question captaincy—it’s part of cricket. Today someone is captain, tomorrow it may be someone else; this is how cricket works.”
