Udaipur, Sept 01, 2025: Indian cricketers, including India’s Test captain Shubman Gill and ODI captain Rohit Sharma, have passed the pre-season Yo-Yo fitness test held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. Gill, along with fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Jitesh Sharma, has also met the required fitness standards. The 25-year-old batter from Punjab has been named Vice-Captain of India for the Asia Cup 2025 T20 tournament. The Indian team will soon leave for Dubai for the Asia Cup, starting on September 9.
The fitness test was mandatory for Shubman Gill. He had to miss the Duleep Trophy because of a fever. Gill, who was made captain of North Zone, rested in his hometown for the last few days.
Other players who passed the test at the BCCI Centre of Excellence include Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur. Apart from the standard Yo-Yo test, a simpler DXA scan was also done to check bone density.
Jaiswal and Washington are on the standby list for the Asia Cup, while Shardul will stay in the city to captain West Zone in the Duleep Trophy semi-final against Central Zone from September 4.
Rohit has no immediate matches after retiring from Test and T20 formats. But he may travel to Australia for the ODI series in November. Before that, he can play three ODIs for India A against Australia A in Kanpur on September 30, October 3, and October 5. It is not yet confirmed, but Rohit may stay in the city for a few more days to train at the Centre of Excellence.
Other Asia Cup squad members like Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, and standby player Riyan Parag have already played in the Duleep Trophy quarter-finals for their regional teams. aThey will not need a separate fitness test.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel, a standby player, missed the Duleep Trophy quarter-finals due to back pain. The Central Zone captain is still under observation by the medical team.
