Udaipur to Inaugurate International Skating Rink
Udaipur is set to enhance its sports facilities with the inauguration of an international skating rink on October 8,2024.. The new rink will have around 200 players and has been constructed by a team of international-level technical experts and architects from Ahmedabad.
Kapil Surana, president of the Udaipur Skating Association, and Anjali Surana, promoter of the skating ground, said that this is the first international skating rink in the state. Symmetrical banking has been applied to both ends of the zinc and high-mast lights for nighttime competitions.
Facility at Skating Rink
With this new facility, Udaipur’s skating players will no longer need to travel to cities like Pune, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, or Bengaluru for international-level training. The rink will also host state and national-level skating tournaments, benefiting school children across the state.
To support the athletes, a shed has been built next to the rink, offering essential amenities. This includes changing rooms, washrooms, seating, parking, and a canteen. Four coaches will be available to train new skaters.
Built by Surana Couple
The Surana couple built this rink to ease their daughter's struggles. Labdhi Surana, their daughter, is an international-level athlete with numerous medals from national and international competitions. She is also the youngest recipient of the President's Award in India. Previously, Labdhi had to leave her studies to train in Pune due to the absence of an international-level skating rink in Udaipur.
