Udaipur, Oct 18, 2025: After performing well in ODIs, T20s, and Tests for India at the IPL 2025 and Under-19 level, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is now ready to show his skills in the Ranji Trophy. He was named the youngest vice-captain of Bihar for the 2025 Ranji Trophy season. Vaibhav had a strong start, leading the team to victory in their first match with new captain Sakibul Gani. In this match, Bihar beat Arunachal Pradesh by an innings and 165 runs in just three days.
Match Won in Three Days
The Ranji Trophy Plate Group match in Patna ended on Friday, October 17th, on the third day. Arunachal Pradesh scored only 105 runs in the first innings and did a little better in the second innings, but it was not enough. The team was all out for 272 runs. Even adding both innings, Arunachal Pradesh could not match Bihar’s first innings score of 542.
20-year-old pacer Saqib Hussain helped a lot in Arunachal’s early collapse in the second innings, taking four wickets in 16 overs.
How Was Vaibhav’s Performance?
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, named vice-captain at just 14 years old, had a good start. He did not make a big impact as a batsman in this match, getting out in the first over of his innings. But the young left-handed batsman scored 14 runs in just five balls, hitting two fours and a six. He did not bat in the second innings as Arunachal Pradesh could not reach Bihar’s total. Vaibhav will look to perform better in the second match against Manipur on October 25th.
22-Year-Old Batsman Steals the Show
Vaibhav may not have performed much, but his 22-year-old teammate Ayush Loharuka shone with the bat in just his sixth first-class match. Arunachal Pradesh’s bowlers struggled against him. Ayush scored 226 runs in 247 balls, hitting 37 fours and one six. His innings helped Bihar declare at a huge total of 542 for nine. This was Ayush’s highest score in his career and his second century. He had previously scored a century against Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy last year.
