Women’s World Cup: India Slump to Third Straight Loss, England Cruise Into Semi-Finals

Chasing the target of 288 runs scored by England in their alloted 50 overs, India scored 284 runs for 6 wickets in 50 overs and lost by just 4 runs 

 

 Udaipur, Oct 20, 2025: The 20th match of the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 was played between India and England. England won the match by 4 runs. This was India’s third straight defeat in the tournament. With this loss, India’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals are almost over.

In this match, England batted first and scored 288 runs for 8 wickets in 50 overs. Chasing the target, India scored 284 runs for 6 wickets in 50 overs and lost by just 4 runs. Heather Knight was named the Player of the Match.

Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur shine

Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal opened the innings for India. The first wicket fell at a score of 13 when Pratika was caught by Amy Jones off Lauren Bell after scoring 6 runs from 14 balls, hitting one four. India lost the second wicket at 42 runs when Harleen Deol was caught by Charlie Dean for 24 runs.

India fail to maintain momentum

Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur built a strong partnership that took India past 150 runs. Mandhana scored her half-century in 60 balls with four fours. Harmanpreet also reached her fifty in 54 balls, hitting seven fours. India lost their third wicket when captain Harmanpreet was out to Nat Sciver Brunt after scoring 70 runs with 10 fours.

Deepti Sharma also played well and scored 50 runs from 57 balls, including five fours. Mandhana made 88 runs from 94 balls with eight fours. In the final over, India needed 14 runs to win, but Amanjot Kaur and Sneha Rana could score only nine. India lost the match by 4 runs.

Heather Knight Century

Heather Knight batted brilliantly for England and helped her team post a big total at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. She scored 109 runs from 91 balls with 15 fours and one six. Amy Jones also made 58 runs from 68 balls with eight fours, while captain Nat Sciver Brunt added 38 runs.

For India, Deepti Sharma bowled well and took 4 wickets for 51 runs in 10 overs. Sri Charani took 2 wickets for 68 runs in 10 overs. England also lost two wickets through run-outs, including Heather Knight.
