Air India: Halal Meals Restricted to Specific Routes
Tata-owned Air India (AI) has introduced a new mandatory meal pre-booking policy for passengers on all its routes. As part of this change, passengers will need to select their preferred meal option in advance when booking their flights, a step intended to streamline in-flight services.
Vistara airline completed its final journey on Monday, November 11, 2024, marking the end of its independent brand identity as it officially merges with Air India.
Halal Meals Limited to Specific Routes
AI will serve halal-certified or “Muslim meals” (MOML) only on select routes, including flights to Saudi Arabia and those for Haj pilgrimage. This policy is outlined in an internal circular issued on November 10, 2024, as part of AI’s operational consolidation with Vistara, another airline under Tata Group.
Halal Certification on Saudi-Bound Flights
The airline has specified that on flights to Jeddah, Dammam, Riyadh, Medina, and all Haj flights, meals will come with a halal certification. Passengers on these routes will receive pre-booked meals labelled with “MOML” stickers, ensuring they meet halal standards. On other routes, AI’s regular meal options will be available but must be pre-booked by passengers.
Leadership Changes for Merger Completion
Air India recently announced several management changes to oversee the final stages of the merger. AI’s CEO and MD, Campbell Wilson, described the merger process as complex, involving extensive efforts by all Tata Group airlines. “As we near the completion of this merger, we are excited to establish a unified leadership team that includes colleagues from all four airlines,” he said, reflecting the focus on unified operations.
